What Others Say

The work we do with Kevin is transforming communication, collaboration, and trust among people in our company. It's boosting morale and changing attitudes, helping us to do our work faster and more productively. On a personal level, I'm examining my own leadership, moving to a more connected, thoughtful, and dialog-based practice.

Kevin is keenly focused on, and stands for, the transformation of people, teams and whole organizations. He balances depth and lightness, seriousness and love, which makes him a ready ally to those he teaches and coaches as they navigate the incredible complexity of meaningful change. I have had the pleasure of working with Kevin in the classroom and can say that he is the type of agile coach I hope to see a lot more of in the world.

Kevin's work draws on his diverse background to teach people crucial skills that empower individuals and teams to interact more effectively. He embodies the sort of authentic communication that help teams discover new communication patterns; break through conflict; and move forward together. Kevin is thoughtful, skilled, and engaging; he’s the real thing.

Process Matters. People Matter More.

Together we design and measure meaningful progress one step and milestone at a time; just as orchards do not bear fruit overnight, I work with the timescale of human systems to instill lasting change.

Driven by compassion, deep curiosity, courage, and discipline, I guide leaders, teams, and organizations through transforming from what and who they are today to what and whom they aspire and are called to become.

To do this I put people first, then employ proven inquiry-driven tools and methodologies drawn from:

• organizational strategy and development
• agile software planning and development
• lean
• leadership development
• professional coaching
• experiential learning
• strengths-based change and transformation

Begin with Strengths. Focus on Outcomes. Learn Through Doing.

I start with strengths; what are we already capable of at our best? What would the future look like if our best was the baseline? What do we need to do to make that future come true?

As a change agent, transformation must continue after I've left the room. Thus I strive to give people the knowledge, tools, and practice they need to transform their world and deliver unprecedented value.

Through my facilitation I create opportunities to learn through doing and seek to create shared understanding among team members. With follow-up coaching, I support teams and individuals to achieve their desired future.

A Competency Framework for Agile Coaching

Lyssa Adkins and Michael Spayd over at the Agile Coaching Institute have created a framework of required competencies for agile coaching. In the Fall of 2012 I attended The Coaching Stance and had the opportunity to witness the interactive group-sized version of their framework laid out on the floor. It became very clear in that moment that my very winding journeys of the past two decades had actually filled all the pieces of this puzzle. So rather than post a CV or some long-winded post, why not just bring you the interactive version so you can see for yourself. Huge thanks to Lyssa and Michael for their pioneering work, and for the other folks at ACI; I simply wouldn't be where I am today without them.

Below is the competency framework; hovering over the label will activate a popup. I'm still ironing out a few bugs, especially on mobile devices and tablets.
